    Welcome from South Carolina...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Exacto can you tell me why exactly Rem Oil is bad? I already have it so I want to know if it's really so bad I should buy something else or just use it up (which will take a while) It's Rem oil MoistureGuard.

Hello, JS, and welcome from Missouri to a really great forum. Good people and info here! I like to use "Ed's Red" homemade CLP for cleaning and general lubing my pistols. If you aren't familiar with this brew, here are some info links:

Also, if you want some good info on handgun use in self defense, check out the many free YouTube videos made by Massad Ayoob, a world-class instructor in handgun use and self defense, who has recorded training sessions in Judicious Use of Force, Shoot to Live, Home Invasion, Preparation for Home Defense, and What to Do After a Shooting. Just Google his name and these topics and the YouTubes should show up. Very good instructional information from an expert, and free.

Don't know if you've seen this; a very good technical review of self defense ammo:
Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo

Hope all this is of some use. Best wishes for a safe, prosperous New Year to you and yours.

Welcome from Alaska! You'll learn lots here, I sure have.

As far as maintenance goes: almost all firearms respond well to even basic cleaning. If you maintain the habit of cleaning your firearms as soon as possible after firing, you'll rarely suffer a problem. While many do fine with a good quality tri-oil, I still prefer a proper cleaning solvent and separate lubricant. Almost anything is better than nothing, and if you get to it quick they are all the easier to clean.
