You should, of course, insist on good ear and eye protection for everyone. But it may be possible to make the gun a bit tamer for her. Is it a bolt action .22 rifle? If so, it should safely shoot Aquila brand .22 Super Colibri ammunition. The standard Colibri may not push the bullet out of a rifle length barrel, although it is fine for handguns. Neither standard nor Super will function reliably in a semi-auto.

Both Colibri and Super Colibri are loaded with light bullets that are propelled by primer but no powder. Almost no recoil, and in a rifle the Super is extremely quiet. There are several sources on the internet, although just about anything is in short supply these days. See, for example, Aguila Super Colibri Ammo 22 Long Rifle 20 Grain Lead Solid Point.

You are doing the right thing in starting your kids young so that they will be responsible shooters and gun owners.

Once you find muffs that fit her, you could also use the disposible ear plugs with them for more noise reduction. Midwayusa.com has a good supply of hearing protection, but you can't try them on before you buy.

    Welcome from Florence, SC...

Feel free to give a yell if I can help you with anything...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
