Never challenge an old man, because if you lose, you’ve lost to an old man, and if you win, so what?

Check your state police website. It should tell you if you will be ok. That is a simple charge and it should be crystal clear if it will give you a problem or not.

You need to check your name on the website link I sent you and you need to look at the type of charge listed against you. It will say if it is criminal or not. The records on this site go back many years, so I don't know when this occured. One of the big problems in Wisconsin is repeated OWI offenses. I remember on the news not long ago, they were talking about the first offense just being a ticket. If that's the case, I still think you'll be okay. But first, check yourself out on the website.

You need to get clarification of bullet item "E" on FIREARMS DEALER NOTIFICATION (HANDGUN TRANSFERS). Bullet "E" reads "are you subject to a court order under Wisconsin Chapters 51, 54 or 55 relating to involuntary commitments, commitments for alcoholism, guardenships and protective placements) prohibiting you from possessing a firearm?" You need to find out what that means to you.

I believe you can get the permit based upon the one- being the first offense. Unless there is something with the alcoholism questions that can not be answered correctly. If you took a class you could have asked an instructor. If using hunter safety or DD214 just send it in and see.

I think it's going to depend on how long ago it was and if you are currently on probation for it.
In Texas it's 5 years after completing any probation etc

Not 100% positive but it appears you should be able to get a permit. If you were honorable discharged from military service you DD214 will meet the training requirement.

"OWI" wouldn't the a more commen acronym be DUI.. I guess the OWI would cover more offenses though, one of which would be Dorctors and surgery.

    Welcome from Milwaukee!

You have absolutely nothing to lose by sending in your application, DD 214 & $50. If you don't qualify for a CCL your check/money order will be sent back. In less than 2 weeks (?) you'll know. Go forth & sin no more, lol.
