Thanks again, everybody for the warm welcome. Indeed, I'm a lucky man in many respects. Extremely lucky to have won the "gun-friendly wife" lottery, 1-in-millions lucky to have found a Shield, and lucky to have friends in the business. (Which didn't hurt me on the Shield acquisition).
I also ordered a Hidden Hybrid holster today. It'll take a few weeks, but it'll still probably beat my permit here by a month or more, so what's the rush!
And, noted on the responsibility issue. Like I mentioned, I've put the whole idea of buying a gun out of my mind a few times over the years precisely because of the immense responsibility of it. I feel good that I'm not taking it too lightly or rushing into anything.

Welcome from "next door" in Polk. If you haven't seen it, Shoot Straight does a ladies day - no range fees for women :) your wife may want to check that out. I go in the mornings over in Lakeland and it's not busy early in the day. Just a thought if she's interested in trying out the Shield. (although from what I hear if she tries it you may not get it back!)
