Hello, I just bought my first pistol for concealed carry. I have very little experience in this area and am hoping to learn a lot from those of you on this forum. I am a little disappointed because one of the things I wanted to learn was which Caliber people preferred and why. I see on the rules that we are discouraged from starting threads that involve "caliber wars". Any suggestions on how I should go about getting this advice?
    I bought a Beretta PX4 9mm standard.

    Welcome...

    from Central Florida!

All the calibers work...placement is the key, but I prefer the bigger (.45) holes...9mm works just fine and is a bit cheaper.
    Hope that helps a bit.

Whatever you feel most comfortable carrying and most proficient shooting. Many will say nothing less than 9MM and some would say 40 or 45 is the best. Go with what works for you! Welcome to a great place for answers to your questions, I have learned a lot from members on this forum!

It's ok to ask fair and intelligent questions, thats why we are all here. The discussions we try to present here is that the size of the bullet or round is not the point .... shot placement, responsibility and safety with a firearm are far more important. Accuracy, training and control will trump caliber every time.

    Welcome from South Carolina...

The 9mm you have chosen is more than sufficient for self defense. Find a reputable training class for defensive pistol purposes. Train Train Train... Then you will be in a position to reevaluate the caliber YOU have chosen. JMO
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Since you bought a Beretta PX4 9mm handgun, I'd suggest you use 9mm ammo.

    Welcome!

I prefer .40S&W, because I can handle it and think it's a happy medium, but you may not like it. Like others have said, shot placement is more important than which caliber you shoot.
