    new in Iowa

    Hello everybody. I've been lurking for quite a while and finally decided to sign up and introduce myself. I am somewhat new to firearms (parents were fairly anti-gun), so I've had to learn mostly on my own. I moved into a new apartment recently and with the help of this forum have many new ideas on home defense. I've had my weapons carry permit since Iowa became a shall issue state. I would really like to retake a class because I need a refresher course and have many new questions. The class I took was done by the local LEO's, and wasn't very helpful (no offense to any LEO). I try to carry nearly 24/7. I know other people who have wcp's who rarely if ever carry. I like to open carry as often as possible. I hope I can contribute any beginner's knowledge I may have, and plan on learning a lot while I'm here.

    If you have the understanding of the law down from the 1st class, now look for a shooting course to take. Not that many in Iowa but a good defensive shooting class would make you more comfortable. Hopefully someone will have some suggestions. Look for a class that is several hours where you will get to shoot a couple hundred rounds from various positions.

    I'm from nw Iowa. I try to get up to Sioux City once in a while. My legal heat does a class up there, I see them advertised at Scheels whenever I'm there.
