Hello from Michigan... lots of "first"s

    Hi all,

Been lurking for a while learning and learning. Now part of the group.

Grew up with guns in the house, hunting though not an avid hunter. Two revolvers in the home for the last 20+ years for home defense, range time 3-4 times a year to keep in practice.

Decided to go full 'concealed carry' because the wife and I travel with the RV a lot, any many times in the off-season find ourselves almost alone in isolated state parks and campgrounds. Nearest ranger a mile away, goes home at 6p, nearest cop 15-20 miles away and cellphone spotty.

In December I took the mandatory CPL class here in Michigan and submitted paperwork. With a wait time of anywhere from "2-4 months" spent time researching pistols and renting at the range... knew my 4" .357 wouldn't carry easily. Narrowed the list to a couple, started shopping, found empty shelves and long waiting lists. Long story short, lucked out and while shopping chain sporting goods store managed to get their last (received today) Glock 27 and good-enough-for-now IWB holster. Day after received CPL in snail so all set.

So the "first"s... yesterday suited up (damn, these jeans are tight now) and went to the range... first time carrying, first time shooting new gun, first semi-auto, first compact. Hey, pretty comfortable in the car, not bad, no worse than my old cell phone. Oh my Gawd... I've got a loaded gun in my pants!!!

Range time ok, all hits pretty much center-mass but really need to practice with smaller gun. "Snap" is less than .357 but sights seem to be smaller to these older eyes. Darn, these jeans are tight!

Swing by mall... no signs so good to go, plus is winter here any have sweatshirt and coat OVER THAT LOADED GUN IN MY PANTS!! What if it falls out? What if people have x-ray vision? Ok, deep breath. Bought some larger jeans, strolled around the mall a bit and then headed home. Ok, another stop at the hardware big box for some stuff... hey, there's a bump on my hip... oh, that's right, I have a gun... almost forgot.

Back home, try new jeans with holster/gun... feels pretty good. Sit and stand ok, walk ok. Hey, during the whole trip the gun didn't fall out, didn't AD/ND, wasn't noticed... darn good day! Think I'm going to like this. Maybe tomorrow another trip with that loaded gun in my pants... keeping aware, but no deep breaths.

Welcome from the SE corner of Michigan. Congrats on finding your new Glock, your new CPL and your new baggy pants. As for the RVing, think Spring!
