I am one of those lifelong anti-gun people that recently “saw the light” “jumped the fence” whatever you want to call it about 6 months ago. As a result I am an extreme newb, but doing everything I can to learn as fast as I can. I have taken a couple of shooting and conceal carry classes, planning on taking a few more defensive/tactical shooting classes. Watched several hundred YouTube videos, been lurking on numerous forums just trying to absorb as much as possible.
I have my Conceal Handgun License, but as of yet haven’t carried. I bought my first gun, a Springfield XD 9mm subcompact this past Saturday, which I have about 200 rounds through, that will be my primary weapon. I picked up a Ruger LCP/lasermax this past Monday, which I have about 150 rounds though, and it will be my backup. My plan is to get 500 rounds through each weapon before I start carrying it.
I joined this forum as I don’t really have anyone I can ask questions of, remember I am a newb so please be kind.

It’s hard to explain because looking back my attitude toward firearms was very ignorant, but at the time I “knew” what I was talking about. I have always been big into self-defense, trained multiple martial arts, trained with knives and other bladed weapons to defend my family and myself. For some reason, maybe growing up in a home with no firearms, I had the attitude “guns by their nature were very bad” and only “crazy militant people own guns”. Of course in hindsight firearms are just the next extension of what I had already been doing.
What started the tilt was a YouTube video, I am not even sure why I was watching it, but the guy in the video said something to the effect “I am my family’s last line of defense” which is something I always preached and believe, it just never had a gun in the picture. After that I started doing some reading and watching over videos, Hickok45 is a great ambassador for firearms btw, but it was the shooting at the Clackamas mall that was my real kick in the ass. Even though I was no where near the mall that day, I had been there many times with my family in the past. I don’t care how much martial arts training you have, it will probably be useless against an AR-15. I signed up for a shooting class the next day, the more I learn the more I realize how wrong my attitude has been.

Great to hear how your view on firearms was changed. If only the rest of the anti-gunners could make the same logical connections you did. Welcome aboard from another NW member!
