After lurking all day... Hello from HST!
After spending my duty day on the forums, I'd like to introduce myself!
I'm Xander, 22, PO2 from USS Harry S. Truman out of Norfolk, VA. I'm originally from Alaska, with a firearm background only in big game hunting.
I finished my deployment in 2010, and if you've been watching the news, you'll know that my ship won't be deploying for a good while now due to funding! That's alright with me, however; I'll be headed westward to my new duty station at NCTS in Washington State in a few months. So as much as I'd like to stick around and meet some fellow gun-toters in VA, I look forward to making new acquaintances in WA as well.
Currently waiting on my CWP, and it will likely be over a month until I have one or will carry concealed. There were several events leading up to my application for one. I've always been protective of myself and my home, but after having my son, and the events of Sandy Hook, my level of alertness is much greater. My wife and I don't know anyone from Sandy Hook, and were reached by nothing more than the news on the TV. But the thought of someone harming my family, especially if I am in arms reach, is unbearable. I won't dig into politics, but I am also one of the people in line to grab the guns off the shelves in case they try to place a ban. Which to me, is counter productive as the response to Sandy Hook, but I'll save that topic for somewhere else...
Until I receive my CWP, I open carry a Taurus 24/7 G2 subcompact 9mm at the 3 o'clock on SOB. Probably not the most common CC choice, but it will serve its purpose if called upon.
I try not to bring it up, off duty, but I have strong military ties and I see that there are a many veterans with a lot of experience here. My hats off to those who have served, as well as to those who have utilized their CC training in the way of their civil duties. I am a novice handgun user, so I look forward to learning and hopefully passing on just as much!
