Welcome from Alabama. I carry a SIG P239 which has no safety. The pistol has a decocker and when decocked is double action to fire. I carry with a round in the chamber decocked. If I were carrying a 1911 I would have a round in the chamber, the pistol cocked, and the safety engaged. After using the SIG I have gotten where I use the decocker/safety on my other pistols as a decocker only. After I decock I move the lever back to the fire position. The double action first round acts as the safety. Others are right that good holsters cover the trigger. The other thing is that modern firearms prevent the firing pin from contacting the primer unless the trigger is pulled.
