Newbe from Wash. state.
Hello everyone. I am in my mid 50s and decided to apply for my "concealed weapon permit". I guess it is the times we live in. It really scares me being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I do a lot of camping alone just like I use to when I was in my 20's. I still go out late and sometimes in bad areas and never had any problems so far. I read the news and find out crime is at my door step. I would like to get some input from you guys on what is a good C.C. gun. I was looking at the "baby GLOCK " and found out it has no safety! When you have a semi auto is is wise to keep a bullet in the chamber? Or can you carry the gun
with no bullet in the chamber and cock it when you need to. I own a Taurus model 66 357 mag. I use for camping, out door shooting ETC.
It is to big and powerful for every day C.C. gun. I don't like the macho holster were I always have to have a coat on. (looking like a FBI man)
Just something very plain even to go to my Friend's house and he will never know I have a gun. I hope I am making my self clear.....Any input will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi phoneguy

''What gun'' is a very popular thread subject and so it could be worth your while to browse around and play with the search function.
Glock 'safety' is the trigger safety - OK for some but not all. Could be a DA/SA gun like a small SIG in 9mm could suit you well (229) .... or DAK type which is DA only. There are many options of course and we always suggest - if possible - go try as many platforms as you can at a range.
The ''one in chamber'' question is another fave
. You will find we are almost of one voice on this - keep one in the tube at all times - otherwise you may just be too short on time and have to hurl the gun as a sorta brick - and hope for best!!
I am talking of course re a CCW gun - it must be comfortable for you shoot - concealable and - sufficiently safe that you are not phased by one in the pipe.
Do browse a bit - I think you'll find some very useful posts.
Oh and - hope you are not too flooded right now!!! Seems nasty up there.

Glad you joined and welcome from Arkansas. ALWAYS carry one in the chamber, otherwise you've got a hammer. HA!

Welcome from SE Missouri. I agree with "One in the Chamber". Try to find a range that has several revolvers and pistols for rent so you can try before you buy....

Ok one in the chamber............Then I will look for a gun with a safety.
Doesn't GLOCK make a small C.C. gun with a safety. I mean pull the trigger and trigger can't move until safety is disengaged. It just doesn't sit well with me having a cocked gun ready to fire on my person with no kind of safety. Any way the rain has stopped and the water is going down slowly. I feel sorry for the people that had to evacuate only to come home to a burgled house. (it makes me sick) PG

Welcome from the flooded Skykomish. As to carrying the Glock ready to fire, It cannot fire unless you have your finger pressing the trigger. Most modern holsters cover the trigger and trigger guard, therefore nothing cand get in and fire it. I personally like the 1911 platform for a gun. I always carry it cocked and locked. The main rule for carrying a gun is keep the finger off the trigger untill you are ready to fire. If you buy a gun with a safety then you will need to practice taking off the safty and firing before carrying for self defence.
There are many threads here very helpfull so enjoy reading.
