After lurking about for several weeks I thought that it's about time I posted a hello. :)
I'm new to owning a firearm and am still waiting for my CPL to get approved. Our current house gun is a S&W 640 which I'm getting familiar with (I try to get to the range at least twice a month). I've got my eye on three possible automatics for EDC, but I want to make sure that the permit goes through before I spend the cash on them; in the meantime I have a friend who I go to the range with that lets me practice with his autos.
I picked the 640 for our first firearm because of the reputation revolvers have for simplicity of operation and reliability, and the heavier .357 J-frame absorbs most of the recoil when firing .38+p so that the Mrs. can handle it in an emergency. I've got her dry-firing it with snap caps, but I haven't yet gotten her to the range. (One thing at a time; until the last year, she was very much anti-gun)
I'll be 55 next month. I was a confirmed bachelor until I was 39, when I married into three step children, two grandkids and a dog. Now we have 3 cats. (Serling, our Shetland Sheepdog passed away two years ago). Kids are all grown and on their own out of state. Grandkids in middle and high school.
I served in the USMC: MOS 3451 (accounting clerk). Honorably discharged in 1981. I'm an Industrial Machine Designer by trade. Politically right-leaning Independent. Professed Christ follower.
Since I'm new to handguns, I'll most likely keep fairly quiet while I'm here except for the occasional question and just soak up some knowledge. :)
