    Welcome from Long Island.

Do you live in NYC or just work there? If you live outside NYC you HAVE a carry permit and for another $20 you can get one issued based on your NY one from NH that will also be honored in PA.

    hello

hello from the buffalo ny area i have had a ccw permit since 1979 and carry a 38 detective special in a alessi holster since then, it seems that it is the best fit for me ( not being in the aggressive role as a police officer but in a defensive personal protection one) having been drawn 3 times with more than adaquate results

I lived in Brooklyn until a year ago when I moved to Rockland County. Right now I only have a sportsman/residence permit. I may do some work at a local range in the near future and get a workplace permit. That would let me carry to and from the range. Unless a pro-gun Judge is elected (one ran and lost in the last election) I probably will not get a full carry permit anytime soon.

Outside of NYC EVERY NY Pistol Permit is a full carry per the NYS law. THe restrictions on Target and Hunting are ADMINISTRATIVE only and if made the greatest penalty they can inflict upon you is loss of permit. The NYS Legislature wrote the law so that you are allowed to CCW with that permit. The judges and other issuing authorities then tacked on restrictions outside of the scope of the law. When the restrictions have been challenged those SAME JUDGES decided they had the right to apply them, although they do not apply to NYS judges even in courts (no self interest there!). WHat the hipocrites cannot do is make it a criminal offense because the law is clear on the matter. You have a permit to carry concealed. The restrictions are meaningless in a court of law. You CAN loose your permit though.

PER THE NY STATE POLICE WEB SITE AND APPLYING TO ALL PERMITS OUTSIDE NYC

Q - What section of the Penal Law authorizes the placing of restrictions on pistol permits by the issuing authority?

The Penal Law does not specifically authorize the placing of restrictions on pistol permits. However, court decisions have consistently supported the ability of licensing officials to impose these restrictions. Such an imposition is an administrative function of the licensing officer.

Licensees in violation of these restrictions would therefore not be subject to criminal prosecution but would face action being taken by the court of issuance in the form of suspension or possible revocation of the license.

Welcome to the best forum on ccw! Hope you enjoy it here.

If you also want to keep up with more local (Northeast US) issues and events, feel free to stop by and check out the link below. We have a few people from CT and a few from NY, always looking for more good folks and the forum is modeled after the civil discourse that occurs here at CC.

LenS: Thanks for the invitation. I will check it out!

Musketeer: I was aware of that, BUT, once you loose your permit you will not be able to own another handgun in NY. I may not like the system but if I want to live here Iíll work with it. Once I get the workplace security permit Iíll be a major step closer to a full carry permit.
