    Why 110s in the SOCOM?

    RSSZ,
I read somewhere that the SOCOM has an 11to1 twist rate, and should favor light-weight (110/130/150) projectiles. I have tried
150s and groups were 2" and under. So I continue with the 110
TAP ammo just to see how it does. Low recoil is an added bonus
for fast follow up shots. M.M.

M.M., With respect,my take on it is...> your starting out with a (fine weapon) .308. Then with the 110's your reducing it down to the .30 cal carbine level. A little more speed yeah, but your accuracy at the 200+ yard ranges will be greatly effected by the BC of the short, fat, flat based, little "pill".-------

RSSZ, Thanks for the feedback. Well I checked the Speer Man.#12. Here's what I found...(30 Car.) muzzle vel. 2000 fps. w/ 110 fmj. energy @ muzzle 976 ft/lbs. @ 300yds 264ft/lbs. (With 100yd. zero) bullet drop @ 300yds -48.1" (.308) muzzle vel.3100 fps. w/ 110 spire point. energy @ muzzle 2346 ft/lbs @300yds 1076.9 ft/lbs. (With 100yd zero) bullet drop @ 300yds 12.3" Yes, with the short barrel of the SOCOM the .308 TAP ammo might give up a little performance. But like you said .308 is a fine cartridge. I found it interesting that the little pill was still over 1000ft/lbs @ 300yds. Sounds good for both four and two legged varmits. M.M.
