Tell her you got your permit and you are going to take some safety classes to be more informed and a responsible firearms owner. Not telling her sooner will probably not bode well in the long run.

Oh yeah, welcome here. Ask questions. Lot's of smarter than I people here.

Great suggestion by Angelico. But even better, offer to take her with. Give her an opportunity to understand and get comfortable with this first-hand. I've found that the best way to gain the support of others is help them gain an understanding of whatever it is (helps reduce fear and uncertainty) and then give them hands-on opportunity to try something for themselves. She may not want to go out and get her own permit, but should be a lot more comfortable with you carrying.

Tell her the truth, ASAP, and that its in part for her protection. That you care that much about her.

Also, that "won a coach purse" thing that welder said, would be a darn good idea.

just tell her the truth. the truth will set you free. tell her you got it for yours and her protection, and family if you got one. ask her to attend a training class with you so she will have a better understanding of why, and it will be coming from someone else other than you. who knows, she must just get into handguns once she sees their abilities and usefulness. education for her, and you, is always good concerning concealed carry.

Explain to her that the world we live in is changing & you want to do all you can to protect and keep safe your loved ones.
Tell her that evil walks the face of the earth, and oftentimes it lurks in the very same places honest, hardworking people live, shop and play, and that your crystal ball is broke, and cannot tell when the hour or day will come that you will need it, if ever, therefore you will carry the pistol wherever you are legally able to do so.

And that you AND her are going to go to some firearms classes, and that you have bought HER a .22lr pistol to take those classes with.
You did go get her a firearm as well correct?

It would be good if you can get her to have a permit too. Are there any ladies classes where you are?

Not telling will be bad. Us women don't like secrets like that, it's not like a magazine for goodness sake ~ people need to know about guns in the home they live in. After the surprise she will get use to it. Some of my family was not the happiest about me having a gun around at first. The more they watched the news, the more comfortable they were and now finally, they are happy I have a gun (or two..)

Tell her the truth..it's always sounds better and has merit...So tell her you were abducted by aliens and they implanted something in your neck and they know where you are at all times and they said they would come again later for another visit. Tell her the place they took you and what they did to you was so scary you can't go through that again and when they come back you need to be ready for them as you are not going with them again.....

I am sure she is a reasonable person and will understand completely.
There are two types of people who carry concealed weapons...Responsible ones and Irresponsible ones...which are you...

You live in Colorado- Take her to a movie and just before it starts remind her the only person armed in the theatre in Aurora was a criminal committed to killing as many people as possible.

Then as the previews start don't say another word about it and just enjoy your movie. On the ride home explain to her that you are not comfortable being powerless in a situation like the Aurora theatre shooting. Point out one citizen commited to fight back could have saved many lives. Then tell her you have resolved to not let her, your children or yourself become victims of similar violent crime and you have decided that concealed carry is now a part of your life.

*The alien abduction story seems pretty solid too.

A .22 would be a great gun for her to learn on and to get comfortable with! Listen to oneshot, that post is spot on!
