I am a new concealed carry member from Iowa.

I received my permit last week and purchased a Ruger LCP .380 today as my 9mm is too large to conceal.

Anyway, I went the online route which made it easy to get my permit but in my opinion its pretty much a useless course. I have fired a couple thousand rounds of 9mm so not new to handguns but have to say I still feel ignorant to the local laws.

Its my intent to put the LCP in my pocket each day just like my wallet.

I am looking for some good reading on the do's and dont's of carrying a firearm in this state. Things like where not to carry, what do you do when you need to remove your firearm and place it in your car, etc. I am in the service business and plan to carry it when working but don't plan on making an announcement I have it.

I figured the state would have some online info but couldn't find anything !

Thanks in advance. Have already found some good reading here.

Welcome to the forum. If you pocket carry please, please always have the gun in a good pocket holster! (I recommend Mika holsters. Others recommend other brands also). Not only does the holster keep the trigger covered and prevent accidental discharges but it also keeps lint, etc. out of the gun. A clean gun is a happy gun!

    Thanks for the welcomes.

I bought a sticky holster which covers the trigger completely. Its pretty comfortable but I might change my conceal methods later.

Welcome! Here's every law to read through. Take the time to do it, it's worth it.

I'd start at http://handgunlaw.us/states/iowa.pdf for an overview of the Iowa laws, then read all the sections they refer to at Iowa Legislature - Advanced Search. Click on Iowa Code, then work your way to the 2013 Iowa Code folder. Most of what you'd need to read is in the Title XVI folder.

Welcome. My bro, in Indianola said it snowed today. You should be able to conceal a FS pistol now. :-)
