Female new to the world of hand guns!

After months of research and desensitizing myself to handguns, I am ready to learn how to properly handle a firearm for self defense purposes. I am signed up to take the NRA Basic Pistol glass on Saturday. I live in Virginia and my husband is taking the class with me. I have been looking at, holding and researching firearms. As long as I can comfortably handle a 9mm for concealed carry I am ready to make my first gun purchase. But I need to buy a safe for bedside and then a larger safe for the future guns! Any suggestions will be appreciated. No gun before the safe is purchased. I am also looking for a concealed carry holster I can comfortably wear in the car. I am out and about in my car alone most of the time!

Welcom . Lot of good info here . For a safe for the bedside I would think biometric are fast to open Gunvault SpeedVault SV500 gun safe - Amazon.com or this Gunvault SpeedVault SV500 gun safe - Amazon.com . I dont use one I dont have kids so ..

As for a car holster . I would say a ankle or should rig are the easiest to draw from in a car imop. Also remora holster are great as there is no clip on them so you can just stick them next to you in the car etc and then just slide them in before you get out. I normal carry pocket or owb . Both work for me and I can draw fast . Ankle carry is hard to draw from if not in a car though ..

Happy you are learning as for a a 9mm try out a lot of them and see what you like . One of my first 9mm that I shot was a friends 9mm xd sc it felt good and was a smooth shooting gun .And I like the grip safety on them esp when you are first staring to carry . Also s&w 69 and the single stake version are heavy well made gun that help with recoil a lot . They even make a 9mm called a ladysmith holds 9 rounds I think . I also like sig 238 and the 9mm 938 if you get the latter models they are all steel and easier to control. Lot of good compact guns out there now so try a lot and see what you like .

Also note most guns you can add heaiver guid rod and springs and grips on them to help with recoil and control. And fedral and others makes low recoile defensive ammo that I like .

Also look at a 22 clone or conversion kit and go to 9 from there . I started with 22lr then 9 and 380 then 45 and so on.

Welcome to the forum. And congratulations on taking responsibility for your own safety. The class will be lots of fun. Try to make it to a range thats rents lots of different guns so you can try a few. Off the top of my head the shield, or the g26, ppk, hk 2000sk
Or even a sig 239 would all be easy to conceal an very reliable. I use the biometric small safe for night stand. Holsters you might try cornered cat website or limatunes website

Welcome! It is always good to have new shooters join -and I don't mean to be sexist, but I personally love to welcome new women to "the ranks". You seem to have a very positive attitude toward becoming a responsible gun owner/user. Congratulations.

Let us know how your class went for you.

I have a Sentry Quick Access Pistol Safe, great for quick quiet access. For a gun check out the Kahr cw9 or cm9.
