    Hello from Western Kentucky

Hi folks. I'm a forty-something year old fart with a wife, daughter, dog, and two cats living in the woods near Kentucky Lake.

We were able to move out of town into a wonderful place out in the sticks a little over a year ago. Since then, I've gotten back into the shooting sports. Did a lot of shooting and small game hunting when I was a kid, mostly in gravel pits and creeks, and during my years in the Navy (Hospital Corpsman 1980-88).

For several years after getting out of the military I didn't even own a gun. Then my father passed away and I inherited his old Ruger 10/22 and Remington 1100 12ga. Also bought a Witness 9mm sometime in the early '90s... it was several years before I even fired a round through it.

I've since made up for that, though. After we moved out into the country I was browsing some local online classifieds and noticed an SKS for sale. It was cheap and I recognized the owner as a good friend that I hadn't spoken to in a while. I bought it from him; a Navy Arms Cowboy Companion. Talk about the SKS being a "gateway gun". Very true. A few months later ended up with a Savage .270 and a Mosin Nagant M91/30. Although I can shoot in my field behind the house, my friend turned me on the the rifle range at Land Between the Lakes which is just a few miles from me. We try and shoot there at least once a month.

This year was a year of firsts. Besides getting back into shooting, I went deer hunting for the first time ever this past season (got a buck) and bagged my first coyote a couple weeks ago. Being able to walk out my door and head right into the woods to hunt is quite a blessing.

I finally attended a local CCW class and I'm waiting for the certificate to arrive. I figure I'll tote the Witness around until I can get something a little smaller. I'm looking at a Kel-Tec P11... maybe after the New Year sometime.

I work in the wonderful/terrible world of television as an engineer for the broadcast media services of a local university (college jobs rock). I also had a short stint as a semi-pro musician (guitar player/singer). I still love to play and I'm always looking for some pickin' partners (just about anything acoustic).

So anyway, I wanted to say Hi. I'll probably do lots more lurking than posting so I'll just be sitting back here in the crowd somewhere and raise my hand occasionally.

When the messenger arrives and says 'Don't shoot the messenger,' it's a good idea to be prepared to shoot the messenger, just in case.
