    Broke kid from Illinois

Hey everybody, reporting from Illinois as it slowly figures out how to issue CCLs. I'm a twenty three year old graduate student employed part-time in a city hall doing mundane paperwork all day, and accordingly every dime counts. I've taken very basic instruction with firearms previously, and have gotten back into shooting after a two year lapse as CC became possible in Illinois. Waiting on my permit which will arrive...Nobody knows, but the longer it takes the more time I have to train and work out all the logistics. I'm currently seeking private instruction to try and refine my admittedly in-progress skills with a pistol. The only handgun I own is a Glock 17 bought used off a cop I'm related to, once I can carry I'll be making due with that until things get better. Currently riding out the ammo shortage with tons of dry fire practice and looking up new drills to try. You'll find I'm the kind of guy who pays attention to the boring details that matter, and in this lifestyle hopefully that pays off in regards to safety and learning correctly. I'm a kid who doesn't know much, I'm a lousy shot, but I can only get better from here.

Welcome to the forum!! There is NOTHING wrong with the G17. As far as not knowing much, you know enough to know you don't know much, and that is way more than most IMO.

Welcome from Texas and a fellow young pup . Stay safe out there and don't worry you'll get better. I remember I couldn't get a group for nothing.
Gun control isn't about guns...it's about control. It also makes criminals out of otherwise law abiding citzens.

Welcome. Im a 25 year old guy who just finished graduate school a year ago... And still living at home with my parents due to lack of being able to find a job that pays enough to get my own place. Pretty crappy. Id gladly go back to my internship at city hall doing paperwork just go have something to do until somewhere hires me on. I am applying for a part time job at a local gun range for the heck of it today.

Carry the crap out of that 17! Be proud of it. Know that you have, arguably, one of the best fighting pistols the world has ever seen. I have a G17 Gen2 that I carry every day. I was thinking of taking the G30 out today, but I think Ill stick with the 17 instead. Why not, right?

Just keep up learning. Being humble is a gift not many have. Ive only been carrying about a year, and feel like I have learned a lifetime of information, yet Im sure that I have only seen the tip of the iceberg. Keep it up. You will be a book of knowledge in no time.

Greetings from Utah, and a tongue in cheek suggestion. Move to a state where capitalism rules and you can get a much better paying job and then buy lots of guns and stuff.
