Just a quick hello to everyone on the board. A quick synopsis of my life with guns....none what-so-ever. I was raised in a household that voted McGovern, Carter, Mondale...etc. The NRA was a cuss word (acronym) and any thought of owning a gun would get the wrath of family especially at Thanksgiving time around the dinner table.
I am in my mid 40's and "parted" with family politics over 20 years ago. They claim I went to the ......dark side. For years I have toyed with learning about firearms and one day owning one. However, everytime I got close to pursuing it, something in the back of my mind would stop me and I would think how dangerous they were (and they are in the hands of idiots). Don't EVER let anyone tell you that what is learned at a young age doesn't stick with you for life.
I finally decided to apply for the Georgia CCW about a month back. It takes 3 to 4 months to receive it in this state. In the meantime, while I await the "golden ticket", I signed up and completed a safety and training course on firearms. I wish they had a video of my first few shots at the range. Coming from an anti gun background, you'd have laughed yourself to the floor at how hard it is to hit a paper target with your hand shaking. My instrutor got a BIG kick out of it.
By the end of the session I must have looked like the the cat who ate the canary. I had the biggest grin you can imagine. I am amazed how much I LOVED shooting the .38 and the 9mm. What a feeling!!!!!
Anyway, I'm glad I'm in the fold and I'll keep everyone up to speed on my family's reaction when they find out I'm packing (as soon as the CCW permit comes).
A real man loves his wife, and places his family as the most important thing in life. Nothing has brought me more peace and content in life than simply being a good husband and father.

Glad to hear you worked through all the propaganda you were spoon fed as a youngster and took responsibility for your own life and safety.
Don't let anyone tell you that you have lost it. The people out there who are unwilling to protect themselves are the ones who have lost it so to speak. Your life is a gift from God and it would be wrong not to do everything in your power to protect it.
Congrats on joining the CCW world. You are more of a free person than you have ever been in your life now.
Welcome, and congrats on realizing that guns are not evil, but only tools that can be used for good as well.
