When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

Welcome from Alabama. I spent almost 14 years in the Big Sleasy, 8/81-6/95. We had a celebration when we got to Slidell in the U-Haul. We moved back to Alabama and except for food and friends we do not miss it at all. Most of the friends are elsewhere now as well. I used to go back for the Symphony Book Fair, but haven't been to it since '02. Brother-in-law lost house and just about everything in it to Katrina. He and wife had retired from UNO and were looking to move. They now live in Roanoke, VA - requirement were 4 seasons, at least 150 miles from Gulf or ocean, and not flat. Their two sons are still in the area one in Slidell and one in St. Rose. They had minor damage from Katrina.
Glad you are enjoying your new surroundings.
