Cajun "Howdy" from Game Cock country!

    Hey there!

Due to some recent unpleasantness around us as the city of Columbia and it's urban baggage encroaches out into our "used to be" country environment, my wife and I have felt the recent need to arm and train ourselves. We recently passed our CCW class and range exams and have put in our applications for our SC CWPs, which should arrive in 90 days if the norm holds true.

My wife has an inherited Colt .38 Detective Special and, after much research on the internet, I recently bought her a new Smith & Wesson Airweight 442 .38 revolver. I also purchased a used Ruger SP101 for myself and a Mossberg 500 Tactical for the house. I'm looking to get a Ruger GP100 for our vehicle/house if I can find a reasonable price.

I joined your forum to learn more about these and other weapons including all your thoughts on how to carry, fire, clean and store them. My wife never fired a weapon in her life until just before our CCW class but rather impressed herself (and me) with her aptitude, talent and willingness to learn. I'm rather more experienced with combat riflery so pistols, revolvers and shotguns are all an "adventure" for both of us. We look forward to reading your forum entries and learning as much as we can.

That's probably enough for most of you. So thanks for allowing me aboard

But , in case you'd like a bit more background...or you are just so bored you can't find something better to read...

My name is Art. I now work full in Mail Processing Services for a large printing company in Columbia, SC. In other words I'm responsible for the production of all that cool "junk mail" you throw out every day.

I was born a full-blooded Cajun and most of my relatives still live down in southwestern Louisiana. However, I grew up an Air Force brat and then served 23 years myself in the US Army: 12 years as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant and the rest in the Airborne Infantry (excluding those 3 yrs as a Drill Sergeant somewhere in between). I served most of my time overseas in various theaters of operations. Yes, I've seen combat more than a few times, but would like to say my most memorable service time was spent in Berlin ('86-'90) where I had the experience of witnessing, up close and personal, the Fall of the Wall - both well before and after. I've had more than a few run-ins on this planet attempting to "manage" those that might oppress others weaker than themselves. For that, and numerous other reasons difficult to express, Freedom, the Spirit of America and its people mean a great deal to me.

Thanks for reading and a future thanks for any help or information you may provide my wife and I in the near future. We have LOTS of questions!

Howdy from No Dak. There's a lot of good info here and a lot of food for thought. The mods are great at 'riding herd' over the forum and do a great job of keeping everyone civil.
