Newb From Florida
I've been searching and lurking for for a few weeks. OK here's how I got here. About a month and half ago my wife traded her car in on a brand new Acura MDX and picked it up from the dealership after they installed all the aftermarket goodies that my wife wanted. Well she proudly picked up her and brought it home to show off around 6pm... I played with all the electronic goodies of course :) It was about 9:00 when we closed the garage and settled in for the night. Around 3:15am my wife was awaken by the Dog and she proceeded to check things out (Yes, I'm a heavy sleeper) she open the door to the garage an saw that someone had stolen her brand new car that had 54 Miles on it and freaked out.... which woke me.... The police said they entered by using a wire to hook on to the handle on your garage door opener that releases it when your power goes out.
Needless to say this opened our eyes on how comfortable we had become and it invoked tremendous change in our personal and home security. We both now have our CCW's and have taken tactical training classes and go the local range every week to shoot. The house has and alarm system and recorded video surveillance. Anyway, along with never shooting a handgun until about 6 weeks ago we have purchased a Glock 26 (Mine), 642 J S&W (Hers) and a Kel Tec P3AT (Ours) I'm also looking into HK .40 P2000SK for carry and home defense. My buddy is an ex LEO and has me hooked on the whole handgun thing.
BTW; They did find the car 3 weeks later wrecked, trashed and it had been used to transport drugs and they also found 9mm ammo in it.....
You can never be too safe and I appreciate the wonderful info that this site has to offer.

Greetings from PA
I am saddened by the scale of your wake-up call - which goes I guess to show that the ''anytime, anywhere'' maxim is alive and well. My local TV news reminds me most nights of just this - gas station robbery, 7/11 hold-up .... vandalism, theft and burglary ....... it gets monotonous!!
Glad the site content may have helped you in your decision-making.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Now that you seem to have your home more secured, perhaps you won't have to go through that again. At any rate, welcome to the forum from NE Florida.
