    New member from Michigan

    Greetings to you all. Been lurking on the forum a bit just today and liked it so much that I figured I'd join!

    A bit of my background: Dad had guns when I was a kid, and I grew up with them in the house an accepted them just as a normal part of life (my wife is an entirely different story).

    My boys and I have been involved in hunting for a few years now--both with bow and shotguns as well as a little bit of black powder--so we've had a small number of guns in the house.

    For years I've been thinking about a pistol for home defense. A few friends tried to dissuade me (some reservations about my occupation and how it just wouldn't be seemly) and others encouraged me.

    The final straw came a few weeks ago when we got the news that the young son of some old friends of ours was found murdered in his own home. At that point I finally made the decision: I'm going to get a pistol.

    I'm not an exceptionally wealthy man, so I bought what I could afford. Our local hardware store sells Hi-Pointe firearms. Cheap price and a lifetime warranty, so I know I'm not going to regret it too much. I'm not under any illusions that it's something other than a cheap gun, but I figure I'll use it, shoot it, and learn from it what I like and what I don't and save up some coin to upgrade later on. For now, I only care that it puts a bullet or two downrage when/if I ever have need of it.

    I'll be taking a CCW class in May and then plan on making carrying part of my general lifestyle. Looking forward to learning from all of you on the forum and interacting with you all, as well!
