I just wanted to say thank you for all the advice I have obtained. I grew up in a house with minimal to no education about firearms. However; I have been involved in self defense since I was 8. I have studied everything from boxing to bjj to muay thai to kali to silat. But during none of this time did I have any exposure to firearms training (disarms, but never what to do afterward  ).
I have sought out basic training from the NRA pistol course and plan on taking the personal protection course followed by the courses offered by Gunsite in Indiana.
In the interim period, I have acquired my lifetime Indiana license and purchased my first firearm: a G19. Though I must say the Hk 45, I held seemed like a match made in heaven.
I'm really looking to be able put together a selection of firearms for home defense.
Starting w/ the G19, then probably the Hk45 and a shotgun and/or carbine.
This is such an informative and helpful site. I'm looking forward to continued learning and growing in be able to protect myself and loved ones.
