    Chickenrunner,
I just noticed you're from Norway. What is it like there in regards to civilian gun ownership?

Compared with the US we have rather strict gun laws. You can only buy a weapon for hunting or target shooting. Forget about buying a weapon if you say it's for self defense. If you're a competitive shooter (which means you have to participate in a certain number of competitions per year) you can buy just about anything you want as long as you can compete with the weapon. But the rule is that you can only own one gun in each caliber - if you're a competitive shooter you can own two. But before you can buy a handgun or a target rifle you have to be an ACTIVE member of an official gunclub for at least 6 months and attend a safety course. You can then apply for a weapons permit. If you aspire to be a hunter, you need a hunter's licence which you will only get after passing a fairly difficult official exam. then you can buy a hunting rifle or shotgun (but of course, you'll have to state what you're going to hunt with the rifle). But then again there are things we can buy that you can't like silencers. You can buy silencers for any gun you legally own, but it's hard to get one in any other caliber than .22. Personally, I have two silencers for my .22 caliber rifle and one for my 9mm USP. Incidentally, Norway is the fourth most armed country in the world when it comes to legally owned weapons. The majority of these weapons are hunting rifles and shotguns.

Welcome to the forum. Gun ownership sounds like an olympic event with all the hoops you have to jump through.

Chicken - welcome Love the nick!!

Your rules there are similar to the hoops and hurdles I had to endure in UK when I lived there - then of course in '97 all my handguns went. Leaving aside all your hassles, does seem you guys are at least able to enjoy shooting pretty well - and i guess even if carry not allowed, you have safer homes!

Hope you enjoy - it's good to have some members from outside of US of A.

Hmmm you can have silincers, but you can't carry concealed?? Can't own more than 1 of each caliber unless in a club?? Who in the heck makes up these rules?
Oh and welcome to the forums, its a great place to hang out.

No, you got that wrong. You can't own a handgun unless you're a member of a club. You can't own two handguns of each caliber unless you can document that you're a competitive shooter, which means you have to participate in a certain number of competions per year. Yet while in the Reserves i had like 80.000 other Norwegians a selective fire assault rifle in the closet and free access to all the ammunition I wanted.

It's because we are all concealed.

Seriously, though, we are glad you finally found us!
