I just thought Id say Hi I just signed up. I'm 17, don't own any guns and have never fired one. Once I turn 18 I plan on buying my first gun. Iv read probably everything there is on weapon safety etc.. and I'm pretty strong so I think I could fire a .45 quite easily. Iv always wanted a 1911.. (doesn't everyone? ) though ill probably start out on something smaller like a .38 or a 9mm.. a .22 doesn't seem powerful enough even for learning.. almost everything iv read suggested they hardly have much more power than an air gun.. once I get a year or two of solid firearms experience under my belt I hope to get my CCW license and start carrying regularly. I don't know anyone who is has any guns or even has a mild interest in them.. so I'm on my own in this.
Hope to have a great time on these forums.. everyone seems like pretty cool people, we'll see.

Don't discount the .22 as a tool for training. It's an excellent platform for devoloping GOOD, proper shooting habits. I'd advise that, when you can, get into a training course that'll get you started in basic fundamentals and solid safety practices.

Welcome from the great state of Texas!
You may want to look in to airsoft, I have heard that they can be beneficial. I even saw a S&W Sigma .40 at Fry's the other day, and compared it to mine (mentally, not actually pulled mine out in the store) and it is the same weight as mine is when it is empty. Same feel and shape, I think I'll go buy it.
Thanks, CTurner91, now I have to explain to my Wife how you made me go buy something else
