    Another FNG

    Hello all,
I'm Chance from the Downriver Area in Michigan, about 20 minutes south of Detroit. I learned some of the basics of handguns and tacticts, even a little anti-terroist stuff in the Navy. A few years after leaving the Navy I had to go up into downtown Detroit and it occured to me that I honestly didn't feel all that safe and secure. A few days later my wife came home asking about perhaps getting some pepper spray or something for her to keep at work because she had some guy get laid off and go a little haywire.

Ok, all the signs are there, its time to do something about all this. So after talking a bit to the wife, she decided to join me in getting a handgun, learning up a bit and then getting our CCWs.

I was thinking of a 1911, because I knew it from the military, but wound up with a CZ97B instead. A little uncommon but very solid and have heard very nice things about it. Its a good sized gun, but it fit so well in my hand I couldn't even think of getting anything else. I think with the right holster (already on order) and a decent cover garment it will do me fine. I still have to get my wife over to the range and walk her through some basics and drills with a .22 so she at least has a framework for deciding what gun suits her. I think she is definately strong enough to handle a .45 but I am also thinking that a 9mm or even a .380 will wind up fitting her hands better. But, its her decision, if she wants and can safely handle a Desert Eagle, then so be it.

Well, today, after my first trip to the range since getting out of the military about 4 years ago, I realize that there is a ways to go before I am confident enough in my own skills to stick a loaded weapon in my pants and walk around all day. I had forgotten how much I used to pull to the right when firing. Ah well, 50 round just to make sure I still knew what I was doing, I may need just a tiny bit more practice.

I am really liking this forum so far, most that I have found are dedicated to just one brand or type of weapon and they get WAY to biased.

If you want a suggestion on a .380, the Browning BDA380 is a NICE one. I've had my eye on one for a while and I'm slowly loosing the will to resist. It's a high cap [double stacked mag] and comes in blued or nickle, with real nice wood grips. It's small, very light weight, is double/single action, and has a safety decocker on the slide. The couple I found here about 500 bones....not too bad!

    Welcome to the forums Chance.

I would recommend a minimum of a 9mm if at all possible. There are quite a few to choose from that your wife should be comfortable with. Also if she can get a .40 S&W or .45 ACP so much the better.

    Again welcome to the forums.
