    New Guy

Hello all new guy from TX

Just found this site and have enjoyed reading some
of the posts and thought I would join.

I have been looking into getting a handgun for CCW,
HD and some practice shooting at the range. I know
nothing about handguns so, I'm looking for advice on
what to get. Open for all replies..

I have been looking at the Bersa Thunder .380 but am
concerned it might not be enough horsepower? lol I was
also considering a revolver as they seem to have a
easy learning curve? Maybe a 38 Rossi?

Do I need to forget both of these guns and just get
    the .45

Thanks all for reading my post.
    Erik

Welcome from VA! The Bersa .380 is a fine pistol, the .380 will do it's part if you do yours.

Looking for advice on handguns? Go put your hands on some guns.
Use the search on DC lots of good info. narrow it down then ask for opinions.

Welcome from Virginia. If you think that you might migrate into something bigger then a .45 is a good choice, but a 9mm might be a good start, cheaper ammo, so you can afford to shoot more. I would look at the Sig 239 9mm and if you want a .45 the Glock G36 Slim. You will get a lot of opinions those are 2 of mine. Also use the search you might find your answer there. There is nothing that feels better in your hand than a 1911, just remember that if you are going to carry it all day, the weight could be a issue. What do you know, 2 more opinions. I will stop now and let the next one take over.

    Howdy from Hopewell!

Revolvers are fine, especially in .357 magnum. The drawbacks are, weight, width and fewer rounds than a pistol. They don't have a safety, as the trigger pull is "harder" in single action, which is probably what you would use if it came to needing it.
Yet they are simple and effective. A snubbie in the above caliber can fire .38 rounds.
If you get the chance, try as many weapons in the range you're considering.
Good luck, and keep us posted.
