Just wanted to say YO !!, as I have just joined this forum.
I'll be retired from the DoD for a year in April, after serving for almost 31 years. I live, play, hunt, and shoot in Pennsylvania, along with my wife of 23 years, who also served almost 28 years in the US Army as a SGTMAJ with the CID out of 'our' HQ at Fort Belvior, VA.
We now live justa few miles from the Willow Grove Naval Air Station and we visit the base a few times a week to use the gym, to shop, and to watch the Warthogs ( A-10 Thunderbolts ) puttin in their training flights. Enuff for now...C YA 'round!!
Welcome, I think it is your birds that overfly my hunting lease on the Eastern Shore of MD, near Chestertown. It is fun to see them at treetop level, they are loud birds, I assume they are on their way to and from Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
bbqgrill...the wife and I just sold a little vacation property we had for about 10 years near Georgetown MD...just south of Chesapeake City, near the boat basin drawbridge ( The Grainery and Kitty Knight House were two favorite watering holes ) and we could hear the ordnance going off across the bay @ Aberdeen many a day as we floated on the Sassafras River...

I used to keep my boat at Skipjack's, we saw the A-10s there but not as much fun cause usually they woke us up too early in the morning. I can hear the ordnance from APG all the way down in Chestertown, everything from BIG detonations to what must be real big automatic weapons chain guns or somthing; relatively low rate of fire but significant report.
We're in the Charlotte area, moving to Raleigh if the housing market ever changes (not holding my breath ). We vacation on the Crystal Coast at Atlantic Beach every Memorial weekend. Beautiful isn't it?
Is NC a reciprocal CC state with PA for when you vacation?
By the way, my husband also served the DoD with a top secret White House clearance (flew with Carter). Thank you much for your service. You are a hero.
Also thank you for your years of DoD service. I too shall soon be retired after 23 years in the Army. Looking forward to getting a new job in the civilian sector...

Yes, NC is one of 25 states that honor PA's LTCF...I have a list of reciprocal states and a SUV safe for states that do not honor...as I pass through them, the gun gets unloaded and stashed in the safe...till I hit the next friendly border. PITA...but necessary!!
And thanks for the kind words, but I'm no hero. The men and women still serving are the true heroes!!
Thanks again to all who have and will reply...and I sure I will C YA 'round the forum...
ARCHER51...Retirement sure is great, ain't it !!
DAL1CELT...thank you for serving...good luck with your job search...my wife now works for a civilian contractor called Cherokee with DoD contracts...and shes got a GS11 interview coming up soon...military experience opens alot of doors !!
( PS...luv the Gaeilge..we're IRISH too...occupied Donegal Castle is the Ó Dónaill / Ó Dómhnaill {meaning "world ruler"} ancestrial home )
Shooter13 welcome from Nebraska. Retired USMC. Question, what is the proper procedure for entering a Navy Base with a handgun? Most of the Air Force Bases will ask if ammo and gun are separated and wave you on.
