Hello from Switzerland !
Hi there,
Im from Switzerland (Geneva) and I am a collector and shooter !
Unfortunately since 1999 legally carrying has become nearly impossible here, unless you have a related job, or can proove you are under a dangerous threat.
But still, I am much interested to see how carrying is still applied where this Liberty has not been taken away from the people yet !
I am here to learn and understand how things go and how you deal with all carrying issues. I hope that the law-abiding Swiss citizens will be able one day, to carry again !
If I could carry, I think I'd go with my glock19, or a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm (that's the biggest caliber allowed for carrying here, 10mm, so no .45 ...)
I love the USA and the last of my 5 trips there was in 2004 (CO, WY,MT,ID,UT;AZ) . I am 28, male, and beside guns I love airplanes !
btw, I found this forum on THR where I am a member for quite a while now. I am also a lot on ar15.com since I own 5 of them.
Good evening everyone !

Howdy from Texas! Is it true that machine guns in your country are pretty much unregulated, and yet, they don't just magically decide to start shooting people by themselves?

well, every citizen serving in our army (3 weeks a year after the 4months of Recruit school when you are around 20) is issued a SiG550 that he keeps at home until he is 34 .. After that you can keep it, but have it castrated to semi only.
private full auto's are usually forbidden in Switzerland, but you can still get them with a special authorisation (+140$ tax). If you want to shoot them legally, you have to pay a 80$ daily fee.
That makes them pretty cheap since few people buy them, because we want to shoot our guns freely. I got my Colt M4 (DOD stamped M16A1 lower officially converted with a Colt M4 upper) for less than 1700$. Actually I only own 2 other full autos beside the M4.. all of my 30+ other guns are not full.. semi's, pumps, levers, bolts, etc..
and yes.. we have NO record of a legally owned machine gun shooting people in our country.. for more than 50 years..
but still our antis want to ban all guns, like everywhere...
"Against Talibans we are not fighting under the rules of Geneva IV Article 4. We are fighting under the rule of Article 223,5.56mm .. And if those numbers don't look good, try Article 7.62mm ! "
