Binghamton NY says Hello.
I don't have a CCW anymore. I moved about fifteen years ago and called the Sheriff dept., to be told I had to transfer my permit. When I did, I received a "restricted" permit because the new county wouldn't issue CCW permits even though I had one in the next county for twenty years. I didn't have to transfer, only inform the issuing county of my new address, I found out later. NY has some strange laws, when the criteria for permits changes with the party of the judge. At least I don't have to re-apply for a new permit every 5 years; no, wait, that's a new bill because a renewable license "may have" been able to prevent the carnage that occurred here in Binghamton a few weeks ago. If laws were effective at stopping crime, there would be no car accidents anymore.
Any way, now I must take a "certified" course ($200-$250)to be able to carry again. I guess I should look at the bright side, much of the training will be teaching the current doctrines (NY does not have a "castle" doctrine, it has a "must retreat" doctrine for all weapons. If I didn't know that, I could really get into trouble with or without a CCW). I'm sure there are other things that will surprise me.

Binghamton, NY..........lived there between ages 6-8. Endicott after that....I used to get up early and help my dad deliver newspapers all over town. They were rather small towns back in those days.

Welcome.
The "certified" course you're talking about is pretty good if it's the same one I'm thinking of. I only know of one but I'm not from down your way. I took pretty much the same class up here and it was great.
