I am a Retired US Army Veteran. I have served in the FL National Guard and the National Guard in SC and TN also.
I deployed with the TN Guard to Iraq where I was injured....not severly but severly imparing. I never thought I would feel the need to carry in the US.....as the thought wore on me I realized it was not just a need but rather a responsibility.
While my Discharge is on the wall my Oath is still in my heart. It is up to me to defend myself and my family of three children and a disabled wife.....I may be retired due to being disabled myself but it is still MY JOB.
We all know that wherever the Police may be at any given moment....when seconds count chances are slim to none they will be there to protect me or mine.
Being Ex-Military and even serving part of that time with Special Forces Groups I do not in any way consider myself an expert on handguns......MY description of myself on that subject would be "Green as a Bean".
Also I have read a lot of stuff about a 380ACP not being the quite perfect carry gun. Because my shooting arm shoulder and side are the main part of what ails me now the Walther PPK was my first purchase. I simply do not know what my shoulder can take in a multiple shot encounter and the deal was sweet as pie from a dear, also disabled combat Vet., 300 bucks and pay when you can? It dont take an expert to know thats a good call. Never fired New in Box.
So now I wait for it to come back.....as soon as I send it.....(see post in PPK Sticky) I am wanting to learn as much as possible because I do know bigger is better....so long as I can handle it that is and I do think I will be able to.
So I look to learn a lot here maybe add a bit from time to time and make some friends.
The Bible says "A man can show no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends"
Not his God
Not his Country
Not even his Family per say....rather his friends.
When soldiers do battle there are not thoughts of the Red White and Blue... unless by chance they are the call signs of your fellow soldiers or friends. We dont fight for the people we are trying to help..We dont fight even for the Flag per say...To be brutaly honest soldiers dont even fight for the folks back home.....soldiers only fight to keep each other alive.....to keep their Friends alive. That is the defination of LOVE as per MY BOOK and that is why I believe the Military bond is so strong and remains for life with most who serve.
And NO one must not Believe just as I do in order to be considered my friend, or have served in the Military.....One must only understand that there is Good and Evil in the world and yea I'm a bit picky on that part, The Evil ones are not on the friend list, if they are trying to harm me, mine or an innocent, that puts them on the Domestic Enemy list. Because I believe that is just what Thugs are.....Domestic Enemies. I do have an oath to uphold.
So it wasnt a "need" that put me in this and other related forums it was the call of Responsibilty. The call of duty.....yet again.
So thats me and sometimes I talk a lot...

A Handgun Carry Permit is but a small piece of plastic, but it is a HUGE leap in personal and civic Responsibility!

Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
Shelby County to be exact. What part of the beautiful state of Tennessee are you located in?
