i am in the market for a ruger LCP but they are backordered etc. and i am really just looking to get a quality carry piece to start shooting with and get my license.

Nothing wrong with Rugers! Is that why your name is "Compact"? 'Cause the LCP sho-nuff is! Are you an experienced pistol shooter already? IMHO, it's a lot easier to go from full-size pistols to pocket pistols...than the other way around. You might want to buy (or borrow) a .22 auto (Ruger Mk., Buckmark, etc.) to get your technique down before you start buying & practicing with higher-priced (and sometimes rare) .380 acp. Just a thought.

    Welcome from Greenville.
I personally would not depend on anything smaller than a 9mm for personal protection, especially if it was my first and for a while possibly my only handgun. You'll get many opinions here, this one is just mine.

Find a range that has some rentals and try them out to see what you like and don't like. If you're in the Greenville area that would be Allen Arms Indoor Shooting Range

But for best price I shop at "Traders Gun Shop" in Taylors. Gotta stretch those pennies where you can.
