Hello from GA
After lurking here for the past month or two I decided it was time to participate. I recently purchased my first firearm and applied for my carry permit at the beginning of this week. After an arduous waiting period my permit arrived two days later so I now have my concealed carry permit. Unfortunately, my profession (public high school teacher) is a major limiting factor on how much I will be able to regularly carry. Besides a career change any legal suggestions are welcome.

You need to check out
Welcome to GeorgiaPacking.org
Their forum contains a lot of information about GA law you will need to know. You should also join GCO (Georgia Carry dot Org). They are constantly working to improve gun legislation in GA.
Take a look at exemption number 17 of section (c) of O.C.G.A. § 16-11-127.1
(17) Teachers and other school personnel who are otherwise authorized to possess or carry weapons, provided that any such weapon is in a locked compartment of a motor vehicle or one which is in a locked container in or a locked firearms rack which is on a motor vehicle;
My interpretation of this means that teachers who can legally own a firearm can keep it in a locked compartment such as a glove box while working. This exemption only applies to the school you work for.
However, there was a case in the archives of GPDO that tells of a teacher who was arrested even though he had a firearm legally stored in his vehicle while working. I believe the judge dropped the charges due to the exemption, but he still had to put on the shiny bracelets, take a free ride, and hang out in the jail for three days until the judge reviewed his case.
