Welcome from South Carolina..
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. - Theodore Roosevelt

Hi marksman, I'm also in AZ. Looks like we joined this forum on this same day.
I took my CCW class at Shooter's World off of I-17 on Indian School, instructor was a retired Michigan police sergeant named Harry. He did a good job teaching the material and patiently entertained all questions and comments.
The location may not the best for you, I imagine Scottsdale Gun Club is much closer. But they are friendly at Shooter's World and will talk your arm off when they're not busy. Much of the staff is young guys (20 somethings) but they aren't TOO know-it-all for that age group, and a couple of them DO know firearms pretty thoroughly. They also have a gunsmith who is there during business hours. Not a bad place, I hang out there a few hours each month.
