New Guy, Southwest Virginia
Hi, I'm new. I'm no expert, just an average guy who appreciates guns, the 2nd amendment, and has had various guns since I was young. Many years ago I used to shoot a lot, now just occasionally. My preference has been revolvers because that's what I started with. I've had a Ruger Police Service Six .357 for many years and I love it. I bought a S&W 442 (snub nosed 38 spcl) a couple of years ago when I got my cc permit. It meets my utilitarian personal defense needs (light, small, reliable, simple, punch). I bought a used Ruger P95 9mm a year ago and been using it as a groundhog gun and I love it. Very accurate, reliable, and comfortable...just too large to carry. Fine for the truck or nightstand. This week, I bought a Taurus PT709 slim 9mm and shot 50 rounds today at lunch. Seems great to me for my intended use, all purpose carry for personal defense (concealed, open, pocket, truck, nightstand). I have short fat hands and fingers, so it fits my hand great. Very thin, easy to carry in any manner, thumb safety. All shots fired and ejected like a charm with the cheapest FMJ ammo I could find. From 16 yards (48 feet) I was able to consistently hit a paint can with slow singles, double taps, rapid fire, one hand or two. Seems accurate for my intended purpose. Recoil is what you expect from a small light gun, but easily manageable. For me, they are purpose driven purchases. It's what fits your needs and you're comfortable with. I practice enough with each of mine to be confident in thier function and my ability for each one's purpose. If I want to target practice for grouping bragging rights with my buddies, I use my old single action six shot 22 lr revolver I've had since I was a kid. That thing is tight. I have different guns based on purpose, form, function, and ability.

Welcome from South Carolina...
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
