I'm really happy I found this forum. Great posts from people with ideas of like kind.
I'm 61, single (Un-encunbered), married once 8 years, divorced 32 years, with good post marital relations.
Joined (RA) U.S. Army at 18 to get the GI Bill. At 19 served One tour RSVN '67 through '68. Engineer Corp. Honorable Discharge 1970.
Trained with and issued M-14.
Qualified "Sharpshooter" with M-14, M-16, M-60 and M-2.
First personal weapon owned was in 1970. Old Browning 1922 .32, from a Ft. Carson Pawn Shop ($95), stolen a year later by a "friend."
Father-in-law introduced me to small game hunting with an Ithica "Featherlight" 12ga, Pump. A greate gun for me, on sale ($150) from Sears. I sawed off the Modified Choke to legal length.
Then, for dear, a 2nd hand Winchester '94, 30-30 ($100). Wished I had waited. I think the Marlin 99 is a better rifle.
Both sold after divorce and I quit hunting.
1979, Llama .380, quality holster, case and ammo for $150. A fine little pistol that repeatedly placed all of an 8 round load in a 4"x4" at 60 feet from a solid rest.
I left it at my Moms and it was confiscated when my Mom was corrnerd in her house. The threatened intruder ran and yelled for cops. She made the mistake of chasing him to the back door. They took his word against her's. I lost my gun.
Then in '85 I got a New Browning Hi-Power 9mm on sale for $320.00. And kept it LOCKED! I loved that gun! Pawned it in hard times for $100 and lost it.
They were all good accurate guns.
Stolen, sold or lost.
Today, I only have a North American Arms, NAA-22LLR, '22LR, with a 1 5/8" Barrel. Loaded with Aguila 60gr .22 LR SubSonic.
I practice with it in the pocket of an old pair of jeans. The hole is gettin' bigger and groupings where it hurts.
Other than You nobody knows about it... darn friends.
The BG will only hear it and mayby see a puff come out of the new hole in my pocket.
At 61, 5'6", 130 lbs, I'M NOT GONNA FIGHT FAIR, when my life is at stake.
Now, I'm looking at the Bersa Thunder 380 cc in Stainless.
With the right rounds I think it is a good step up.
Ammo availability is my only concern.
Moving up in caliber is a great move.
Welcome from Georgia, thanks for you service. take a look at a Keltec pf-9 it is a 9mm small, affordable and mine has been very reliable, and its made in the USA.
:bier: from Ga. Welcome to DC. I would recommend the Ruger LCP .380 too. The Bersa or the Ruger would be a good investment and should serve you well.

Thanks for the quick welcome Folks!
Sure makin' me feel like I found a Home.
For the suggestions too. They all appear to have a warranted appeal.
A friend I work with has an FFL and I'm trying to contact him to see if he can help me get a price break for my final choice.
I know I've got to get over it, but I'm just so darn old fashioned. A lot of the Autoloaders look so Boxy.
Kinda like a 2"x2" with a handle stuck to it as an after thought.
All of the Handguns I've owned were... well, sexy to me. They felt "right" when I held them in my hand.
I'll come around, that these are just "Tools" to serve a purpose.
Craftsmanship and efficiency in performing as intended. I want to keep that in the forefront.
And of course, Made in the USA
