Customer swipes masked man's gun and kill's him! - Merged

Party story customer swipes masked man's gun, kills him | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

A Romulus party store customer wrestled a gun away from a masked man, shooting and killing the man Saturday night.

The robber and two other men were robbing the Super Y party store at the corner of Middlebelt and Ecorse roads when the customer walked in with a woman at 9:30 p.m., Romulus Police Sgt. Corey Sadler said today.

"The male customer and the gunman began fighting each other for control of the weapon," Sadler said. "Pretty crazy, but it worked out for him. He was able to get control of the gun, and was able to shoot two rounds, fatally wounding the gunman."

Two other robbers who were forcing a store employee to empty the safe at gunpoint escaped out a back door. Police are still searching for them and the driver of the getaway car, a black, four-door 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix with license plate CCR0052, Sadler said. They were last seen driving north on Middlebelt.

Anyone who spots the car should call 911, as the suspects are believed to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call Romulus Police at 734-941-8400.

He's lucky he survived. I've heard more stories from my parents, ex cops, of people shot dead from trying to be a hero.

There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Now that's what I call the 'survivor mentality'!

Pretty stupid on that guy's part, but anytime armed robbers end up on the losing side and no good citizens are hurt, I'm not going to complain.

This customer may have been trained and knew what he was doing.

Good, kinda. I'm not sure what charges he may end up facing out of this, though.

If it's a small place, he might have walked right into it and didn't have a chance but to get involved. Especially considering he had a female companion with him.
I doubt the law will follow up with any charges. Did what he had to do.

I did something similar (except didn't shoot the perp) many years ago.

I was visiting my mom in Calif and walked around the corner to a liquor store. The guy in front of me in line displayed a small (.25) semi auto to the clerk and then held it out from his side below counter level. I hit him from behind and held him so that the gun was pressed against the counter and he dropped it. By this time, the clerk had joined in the wrestling and I retreived the gun and we held the failed robber until the police arrived.

I was in my 20s and had just finished POST academy in MA.
Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

Wrestling away the gun, risky. Shooting the dirtbag with his own gun, priceless.

Kudos to the customer. Would have loved to see the look on the perps face when his own gun was pointing at him.
