Won't be the first Colorado cop to go down for DUI. I haven't seen it happen on duty in a marked car before though.

That is flat freaky. It's one thing to be a vicious alcoholic, but while on duty and in uniform!?

That is sad for him and his family.
Thank goodness they got to him before any harm had occurred.

With that much time on the job I would hope they would let him retire. However, if convicted of the DUI it is possible they might let him go for cause, and he'd have to fight for his pension. All in all, it isn't worth the drink. We had a little poem we all had to learn in the Delaware State Police Academy which went like this:

    A whiskey glass and a woman's *** will make a monkey's *** out of me.

Short and to the point, and it did come to pass with a couple members of my class.

Maybe he can do like the Northwest pilots a while back. Claim alcoholism is a disease and so he can't be fired under "People with Disabilities Act".
As I recall, it didn't work out for the pilots.

Didn't he know guns and alcohol don't mix?

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cocha Heyden says Douglas County let the Colorado State Patrol know about the situation since it was on the Interstate, and involving a State Patrol vehicle.
Sounds like they wanted to cut the CSP some slack. Let them find him first and cover it up.

DUI while driving a patrol car and in uniform?
Wow! This guy must have some major problems. I'm sure that he'll be kissing his job good-bye.

I'm actually sympathetic. Not excusing mind you, but I've heard statistics show a high level of alcohol abuse in career law enforecement officers. Its a hard career, and I think you see alot, sometimes maybe too much. The guy clearly needs help.

Every one that he has charged with DUI or any other charge will likely be dismissed

A higher level of alcohol abuse can be found in high stress professions.

But then I think of all the cops that AREN'T alcoholics and STILL do their job every day, and my sympathy begins to dissipate rapidly.

Well I know what would happen if it were me. Jail time no driving for a long time no gun for ten years at least. But I am just one of those gun carrying citizens.
