"Sudden and acute failure of the victim selection process." as Massad Ayoob is fond of saying.

Most criminals give the element of surprise back to their victim. They generally prefer either not leaving bodies behind or killing the victim after they have achieved their objective (digging for valuables on a freshly dead corpse is messy, time consuming and follows on the heels of a loud noise that will likely draw unwanted attention). If they thought you were going to be trouble, they never would have assaulted you.

McElveen, wounded, dropped his gun and fell to the ground. The would-be victim called 911, but McElveen died before paramedics could arrive to treat him, coroner’s chief investigator John Gagliano said.

And another one bites the dust. Good shooting by the truck owner.

"Suspect in Armed Robbery Murdered"? What kind of reporting is that?

It's all a matter of having the guts to go to work and get the job done.

    Glad it turned out well.

I agree and the victim should seek legal action against this biased titled.

Tell me, how the second News Report can justify saying the BG was Murdered during his commision of an armed robbery?

Suspect In Armed Robbery Murdered - WGNO

    Poor victim selection indead!

I'll bet this was not how Joshua Mcelveen thought that night was supposed to go down for for him, at all!

    Hello Jesus!
Bet he wishes he gone to Church with Grammy instead.

A note to the Mcelveen Family: Although we cheer for his Victims ability to defend himself, I grieve with you over your loss. It's sad to see our youth waste their lives this way. Especially since we live in a Country where he could have been President had he applied himself.
May his passing turn someone elses lives away from evil. I pray it does!

McElveen wasn't murdered! John Lennon was murdered, not McElveen! McElveen was shot in self defense by his intended robbery victim during the act of commiting a crime, & later died of his wounds. Thankfully, we'll never know McElveen's full intentions of not shooting or shooting, & at what point. How many stories do we see & read of victims fully complying, only to be shot anyway ... it's just way too risky to take that chance anymore. When a gun is pulled on you, you have to assume the worst & act accordingly. Anything less is leaving the fate of your life to the spontaneous whims of the bad guys. The BG's are psychic, as only they know if the victim(s) is going to get shot or not, & sometimes they don't even know until the final moments of their bad deeds.

I'm surprised the press didn't rant about the cold, callous, insensitive shooter that had no right to defend himself, because all he had to do was comply & politely surrender his truck, all his valuables, & possibly his life, while justifying McElveen's actions with the blithering sob stories of troubled childhood & home situation, & how he was really a good kid at heart on the verge of turning his life around & didn't deserve this.

Can't speak for anyone else, but for me ... that CRAP don't cut it anymore. The more BG's eliminated during the act of violent crimes ... the merrier!

Asked by a CNN reporter "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist"?, the Marine sniper simply shrugged & replied "recoil".

    Good guy +1.

This is exactly what should happen to criminals that threaten deadly force. They receive more deadly force than they bargained for.

Good for the truck owner. I certainly hope he nails the media for that kind of junk reporting.

I sent this email to the station...........

    Folks:

Who on your staff picks the headlines??

It seems to me that this “Headline” tag is very misleading. This nice young man was NOT murdered. Webster’s Dictionary defines “Murder” as “1 : the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought.”

This fine young man, was according, to investigators, was killed during his commission of a violent felony crime. His death came from his intended victim, a citizen who was defending himself.

Duh...carjacking a man inside a pickup truck? Did it have NRA and Confederate and veteran decals and stickers on it?
