A homeowner with a gun scared away home invasion robbers, according to the Port Arthur Police Department.
The robbers kicked in the door of a home in the 35 hundred block of 27th Street shortly after midnight Monday. They pointed a gun at one person in the home and began stealing items. When they walked into a bedroom they were confronted by the homeowner who had a gun. The robbers ran out the door and drove away. The homeowner chased them and gave a description to officers. Officer T. Cater found the vehicle and arrested one suspect. The others ran away. Officer C. Cole's K-9 partner, Apollo, found and held another suspect who tried to hide from officers. Police arrested a third suspect. Officers recovered the stolen items and a handgun.
The suspects were taken to the Jefferson County Jail and booked on two counts of Aggravated Robbery.

The last thing I want to do is shoot someone. Even if justified... I don't want to.
However, I have to think that someone who breaks in brandishing weapons, I'm considering myself to have no other choice but to shoot them. Repeatedly!

Well, not shooting probably saved him a bunch of legal hassle, but if they turned and ran the second they saw him, you can't blame the guy for not shooting them in the back.
The article said they pointed their gun at someone else in the house, so he was not alone, and that being the case, I would want to assess the sittuation before just blasting someone as they opened the door too. They might have had his family right behind them and he didn't want to overpenetrate. There's a lot to consider, and looking at the outcome, it sounds like things turned out ok.

Given how quick things happen, he successfully defended himself and his family with a firearm eventhough no shots were fired. Sounds like he could have, and was prepared to, but didn't have to. Of course, the BGs could have attacked rather than retreat. Thankfully they were more prepared to flee and look for an easier target rather than get into a gun fight.

Yep... he did the right thing, Lets HOPE the court does the right thing.
You may not like guns. You may choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.
However, if someone breaks into your home at 3AM the first two things you are going to do are:
1) Call someone with a gun.
2)Pray they get there in time." - A wise man

Hopefully these knuckledraggers will get jailtime, and won't want payback.
this would be my biggest fear, for retribution on my family
