He Had A Bullet In The Chamber!!

There have been numerous newspaper articles and internet posts and responses the past few days about the Brown's nose tackle Shaun Rogers getting arrested at Cleveland Hopkins airport with a loaded gun in his carryon luggage. Although he has a permit to carry from Michigan, and had recently been in Detroit, he was on his way to visit family for Easter when caught with a Kimber .45 in his carryon luggage. He claims he forgot it was in there, which may be the truth given that he is obviously a frequent flyer and knows better than to try to get a firearm past airport security. What strikes me most about the entire situation is the headlines on subsequent articles blaring out that the gun had a bullet in the chamber!! Oh my, how dangerous, run for your lives! I only saw one mention that "cocked and locked" was the normal and safe way to carry a gun of the type he had in his possession. While Rogers was stupid for forgetting the gun was in his luggage, IMHO at least he know how to carry a 1911 properly. The anti-gun press and the replying to online posts are more focused on the fact the gun "had a bullet in the chamber" than anything else!

I use to always forget about my folder knife at the airport. Until I did it with on a business trip with the boss right there with me. I felt pretty stupid. You only do that once.

Part of why I hate flying.

As far as I'm concerned, flying used to be a convenience! Quick and speedy travel to save time. Not anymore. Now air travel is a pain in the butt.

For me, in most cases it's worth it to drive. Much less stress and able to travel armed.

And most of the time, it's cheaper or at least an even split with the cost of flying, even with the price of gas these days. I just have to plan for a little longer travel time.

Unfortunately I can't drive home from here when I go on vacation in June so I have the whole airport thing to go through 4 times (if not 6 times because of increased securiy at Amsterdam due to the underwear bomber) because we are going to see my terminal brother-in-law while I'm home (plus customs twice).

Didn't have the boss with me, but you're right: it was embarrassing enough and I haven't made that mistake again.

It wasnt that long ago that no one cared! I walked through MSP in 1999 with a BIG Buck Knife on my belt with no problems. They didnt even have metal detectors.

You generally have to get there earlier to check your firearm (40 minutes as opposed to 30 minutes if you are just doing carry-on) so that helps me remember what I have to do when I get there: go right to the check in counter.
