Good Story, Bad Tips from the Ohio PD.

YouTube - ATM Robber Scared Away by Armed Citizen

Tips from the Ohio PD. (Translated)

If some one is robbing you:

    1. Give them everything you have worked for.
    2. Disengage your brain and do exactly as you are instructed.
    3. Be a good witness.
    4. Assume they have a loaded gun.
    5. Additionally offer them your daughters as prizes...

    OK, so I added the 5th one... While I can agree with 3 & 4, 1 & 2 make my stomach churn...

I think the victim got it about right!

I might have scraped up my truck as I squashed this scumbag between my truck and the brick bank. Sorry officer, he scared me so much that my foot slipped off the break!

That may be how it is in Ohio but let me add this.

Tips from the Texas Version (Translated)

If some one is robbing you:

    1. Give them every chance to get in range.

    2. Wait and get a clear shot before you pull the trigger.

    3. Make sure all the witnesses are on your side.

    4. Assume they have a loaded gun and shoot first.

    5. Offer them additional reinforcement of your refusal to be made a victim by applying more lead to puntuate your position.

And I will add a sixth because the west was won with a six gun.

    6. Make sure your version is the only one verbally told.

Don't be so down on "Ohio Police"--this happened in Columbus, and the reporter is "reporting" what the police supposedly said--the video doesn't show an actual policeman. And what the reporter is saying the police said is most probably the "politically correct" (and legal liability correct) answer. The Dayton paper and TV stations have "reported" similar "statements" from local police "officials". I have heard individual police officers make entirely different comments regarding how a CCW holder should react given this scenario.

    I prefer the TX tips...

This guy says that he didn't see a weapon, but that doesn't mean that the dirtbag didn't have one.
Now this dirtbag will live to rob someone else...perhaps with a weapon next time.

    What PastorPack said!

Those tips really suck. Basically, that is a message to criminals: "We've instructed all citizens to obey you and give you money when you demand."

As opposed to: "Citizens, arm yourselves and do as the gentleman in the news story has done."

I wonder which piece of advice would lower the crime rate...
One of the most dangerous political philosophies afflicting America today is the belief that we canít allow anyone to suffer the natural consequences of their own stupidity.

The police or anyone in authority will rarely tell you to get gun. Too afraid of being sued if something goes wrong. That aside I say if you can't give good advice, don't give any. I too am sick of the bend over and give them everything you have advice.

This kind of sounds like what bank tellers are told to do.

What did you expect them to say?
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
