Bad stuff, close to home
Just found out that two restaurants in my county that we frequent were robbed at gunpoint a little while back (within 4 minutes apart, by the same people) and in a neighboring town that we frequent 2 men were shot while walking down the street, but not believed to be related to another recent shooting. Every time we see these things on TV or in the paper, I tell my wife that these are the reasons I carry. She's been very supportive over the last several months. I'm sure the multiple stories on the news every night about the surrounding area have contributed to the support. Too many bad things happening too close to home.

Same story here in north Florida. I think it is happening all over the nation and I believe it is a direct result of the economy and the unemployment situation.

Head on a swivel!
One of the most dangerous political philosophies afflicting America today is the belief that we can’t allow anyone to suffer the natural consequences of their own stupidity.

I don't disagree with that.
I also think the lack of sufficient punishment/deterrent has an effect, as well. I see plenty of stories in which the offender(s) have records and were released earlier than I would have liked due to either insufficient sentencing or early release due to overcrowding.

Same thing 'round here, though it has been a bit quieter the past several weeks.
2010, so far, has been a bad year for shootings, stabbings, robberies, home invasions and other assaults. Lots of these seem way up, over past years.
