UPDATE 2: Orange insurance agent life-flighted after beaten in office

Prominent Orange insurance agent Mickey McNamara has been taken by helicopter to the hospital after police say he was beaten with a blunt object in his Green Avenue office this afternoon.
A female employee was also beaten. Robbery appears to be the motive, police said.
Nearby West Orange Middle School was put on lockdown after the incident, according to school officials.
The school is now letting students out for the day, but police are at all pick-up points. Parents and police are surrounding the school.
The beating happened at McNamara's office at about 1:40 this afternoon, according to police.
The area around the business and the school has been cordoned off by police who say they are searching for a black man in his late teens or early 20s wearing dark pants and a light-colored shirt.

Too bad someone in the office was not armed, it might have ended differently. I hope both parties are ok.

I agree it is uterly stupid. I'm familiar with the business - many folks do pay their premiums with cash, at the agents office. More than you would think.

When you CHOOSE not to be armed, you severely limit your defensive options...hope the two in the office heal quickly.

I was in my insurance agent's office yesterday. He's an avid shooter. He's prepared. He told me about leaving one night and a guy asking him for a match and he told him he didn't smoke. The guy said, "What about your wallet?" He said he opened his jacket (his large S&W .357 in a shoulder rig) and the guy took off running.

That's sad. Going about life and it's suddenly ended both tragically and unnecessarily. This is an example of why I carry. I preach peace but everybody doesn't want peace. Prayers for the family.

It's a real shame the guy died.

I don't know why people who work in any office open to the public wouldn't want to be armed while at work.

Boy, if that's not short and to the point. And very true. Terrible story.

I suspect the murderer has never bought insurance.

Ironically, he'll have it while he's in jail.

Desperate people will do desperate things and never consider the consequences. It is a shame that our society has degenerated to situations like this. To think, the Anti people want to take away our ability and right to arm and defend ourselves from just this kind of crime. Sad.
