Cops: Fatal shooting of robbery suspect was self-defense
Would-be target of robbery had permit for weapon, police say.

Indianapolis police said today that the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old robbery suspect appeared to be self-defense.

Christopher Hampton, Indianapolis, was shot and killed Sunday at 6 p.m. in an apartment on the 1500 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Matthew Mount said Brian Blevins, 24, Indianapolis, told investigators Hampton tried to rob him, his girlfriend and friend.

Blevins said he was helping his friend move into the apartment when Hampton approached and asked for change for $5.

Someone said there was change in the 3rd floor apartment and Hampton followed the group inside. Once there, he pulled a gun and directed everyone into a back room, police said. While being ushered to the back at gunpoint, Blevins pulled out his gun, turned and fired at Hampton, striking him at least four times.

Hampton was wearing an ankle bracelet brace for an unrelated invasion of privacy and violation of a protective order arrest on April 5.

Blevins, who had a permit to carry a handgun, and the two witnesses were questioned by detectives and released. Detectives said the shooting appeared to be self-defense but the evidence will be reviewed by the Marion County prosecutorís office.

Many years ago someone argued that an ankle bracelet would reduce recidivism.

    Fail.

Sounds like a clear SD shoot.

Followed them up to the apartment? I'd made him wait outside IF I was of a mind to change his five at all.

Good job on taking care of business when the situation went south.

Well, four shots of lead sure does...

Nice shooting on the part of the 'victim'.

-1 for letting the guy follow them up to the apartment
    +1 for being prepared
Overall, he comes out even...and alive. Guess they can pass the ankle bracelet
on to the next social deviant.

Why would you offer to make change for anyone?
Direct them to a store which is on every other block everywhere.

Never mind stating to a street stranger; We got money upstairs!!...Come with me to see where I keep it and how much I have! Oh, and BTW would you like to have my GF for some fun, she's available!?

No gun required here...If only any one of those three had used their brain, if not had a modicum of street sense.

Id hate to clean the carpets of all the blood after shooting em.

But mostly i'd be pissed to have to sit in traffic to replace the 4 corbon's that was expended on a waste of flesh human being.
