Woman arrested at airport, security found gun in bag - Bay News 9
PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A woman arrested at the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport told authorities that she forgot there was a gun in her bag.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old Kristy Grove from Fort Myers was ready to board her flight to Chattanooga, Tennessee Saturday morning.
When she went through security, screeners reportedly found a .25 caliber Raven with six bullets in a side pocket of her carry-on bag.
Deputies say Grove was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm, which is a felony.
Her bond is set at $5,000.

Another reason why off body carry isn't a good idea

That's a shame, if convicted, her cc is gone! It may be gone until the trial is over anyway? I cc and sometimes I have to leave it home. I have never forgotten when I have it on and when I have it off! I am very uncomfortable without it, it's just part of me now. I qualified for my HR218 permit this morning with both the 40 and the 38, so now I'm good in all 50 States and US Possessions.

I may be mistaken, but my take on this is she did not have a CWP. If she didn't and had the gun stuck in the side pocket of the bag to store it I can understand how she forgot it was there. Not saying it's a smart place to store a gun, but I've seen dumber things. Either way she's in DEEP doo-doo now.

That was a $3000 mistake with or without a continuing permit.
A friend who is a doctor did the same thing...didn't lose his permit, but he paid big bucks...after the 3-4 hour interview with the FBI which determined he meant no harm.

Some people don't want to pay the fee for the CCL. There shouldn't be a fee for exercising your 2nd Amend rights.

Barry Switzer did that a few years ago. His case cost him a bunch as well.

Not quite as powerful as a pair of finger nail clippers, but you carry what you can!
Anyhow, this is just stupid on her part. Did she think she could just hide a pistol and get on a plane?

I can see it happening.
A few years ago I had a membership at a local gym in Knoxville. The gym was posted and I always left my gun locked in the car. One night I made it all the way into the locker room and was starting to change into my workout clothes. It hit me that I forgot I still had my pistol on.
I went back to the car and disarmed and returned inside for my workout. I kind of got a chuckle thinking what the other men would have said had I totally blanked out and dropped my pants revealing a .45 ACP!!

One trip I took just after 9/11, with rifle-toting military in attendance at the security checkpoint), I used by old Bug-Out Bag as my carryon. Turns out one of those old military can-openers (P-31? The one that you can put on your dog-tag chain) fell down under the bottom liner. The X-Ray picked it up and I had to empty the entire bag and rip out the liner to get it out. It was not a pleasant time.
A Raven 25 suggests a less-than-gung-ho concealed-carry person, who might not incorporate the whole carry 'thing' as we do. Forgetting, if carrying were not a major part of one's life, is certainly believable.

Bug Out Bags suck for that.
I still have my original one, and go through it with paranoia each and every time I travel. There is always some gun stuff or knives floating around in there somewhere.

Traveled by air recently, they were looking closely at my nail clippers.
