    SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE
Burglars who struck two police officers’ Southwest Side homes in two separate incidents Friday made off with police equipment -- including a gun, police badge and bullet proof vest, police said.

In the first incident, which occurred between 4:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., thieves broke into an officer’s home and took gun, police star, uniform and a bullet proof vest, police said.

Shortly afterward, in a separate incident police think occurred sometime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., thieves broke into a vehicle in an officer’s garage and took a uniform shirt, nameplate, handcuffs and a stereo, police said. The vehicle was not a police squad car.

No suspects are in custody Sunday morning.

So I guess the gun was just sittin on top of a dresser or a breakfast table or what...?

No requirements in 'Cheekago' to keep guns in a safe or somewhere secure?

Now some bg has a cops vest, badge and uniform as well as his gun. Not good...............

Daly won't like this. O'Sorry their his Cops, should be OK. If it was a regular Joe, I hate to think of what would happen at the hands of Mr. Daly.

A LEO has a responsibility to protect his weapons. You leave for work and return from work every day armed, so everyone who sees you knows there are at least one gun in the house! If your looking to steal a weapon, why not go where you actually know there is one? Should have been locked in a safe while not being worn, IMHO.

This is what we have been telling the anti-gun crowd for years. You ban guns and criminals will still get them. Through the black market or theft, and yes, theft from police and other agencies.

This is a perfect example of that. Yet, they still believe that making it hard to obtain and keep firearms in the hands of legal people will somehow thwart the use of them. The facts stare them right in the face and still they don't see it.

The anti's choose not to see, but there are no atheists in the foxholes. They will wait until it's too late.
