BAD (and stupid): Cops furious at 'don't-kill' bill

Basically, someone who learned everything about guns by watching the Lethal Weapon movies proposes a bill requiring police to shoot to stop...such as by shooting in an arm or leg.

"A police officer or peace officer . . . uses such force with the intent to stop, rather than kill . . . and uses only the minimal amount of force necessary to effect such stop."

Possibly my favorite quote, and probably the best thing I've heard come from Biden:
"...said he showed the bill last week to Vice President Joe Biden, who scoffed and suggested it be dubbed "The John Wayne Bill" because it demands sharp-shooting skills of the kind only seen in movies."

This is a BAD BAD bill....I don't wish to discuss LEO marksmanship, but when push comes to shove, I want them to shoot what they can hit....COM or not. I don't want them shooting to "wound"....if they are shooting to wound, then they shouldn't be using a firearm, but a less-than-lethal alternative (which, in some cases, can be lethal)....

Take away their firearm and give them tranquilizer guns....(just joking!)

It's always nice when you have people who have no idea what it actually takes to the this job, wanting to make the rules for the job. IF this were ever implemented, many good officers would get in trouble for killing BGs when they were trying to shoot to wound. And many more good officers would die.

I have stated many times that if the folks who make up this stuff would actually have to work and or live by the rules they impliment, then they wouldn't make rules like that.

Maybe that should be the requirement for making rules and laws.

The real danger I see if this idiocy gains any support is to start applying it to non-LEO as well. You'd soon see grandma being charged for shooting a knife-wielding perp in the chest instead of his knife hand, not to mention being opened even wider to civil lawsuits.

NYPD gladly enforces some of the most draconian firearm laws in the country. I am smiling at the fact that they now had to deal with the same liberal idiocy they so readily enforce on behalf of their political masters on law abiding citizenry.
